Entering the Tekken Scene!

by Paran01d VG | July 03, 2021

Hey everyone!

We’re proud to announce that we’ll be exploring the Tekken scene with the introduction of our newest player, Damus! Do read till the end to find out our stance in Tekken and what Damus has to say in our interview with him.

You already know us for our Brawlhalla and Super Smash Bros team, but this expansion into Tekken brings us more opportunities to dominate the scene within the FGC, especially with our lively new player, Damus! On to our stance, we have Tyler himself explaining the added value this brings for Rectify: “by introducing Damus as our first Tekken player this is just the start for Rectify in the game. As time goes, on we'll be looking to connect with other players in the Tekken scene to add on to our roster and bolster our stance in the Fighting Game Community even further. Not only will we look to add new players, but hosting events is a goal as well.”

Now, moving on to our interview segment!

Could you provide a background about yourself as well as share your journey and your wish in your fighting game career?

I’m 36 years old, I'm originally from NY, now living in Texas. I have been in the FGC since I was 16, started really competing at 19. I play multiple fighting games, but Tekken is my main game. I have placed well in multiple events. I took a break from competing to focus on family life. Attended local events, but when Covid happened and events shifted online, I found new focus. Spent the past year playing in as many tournaments as I could and now that offline is coming back, I will be traveling more. I have done everything that I have wanted to do in the community. From Winning locals, to being considered one of the best with my character, to placing top 3 at a major event. Now my goal is to put my team first, help new players and continue to improve as a player myself.

You've definitely come a long way to create an impact in the FGC, but how do you plan on maintaining this consistency to improve?

By playing and analyzing my matches, taking advice and feedback. My biggest strength is taking other's feedback and applying that to my game.

An understandably wise approach towards improvement. Now, Covid has undoubtedly had a significant effect on the world and with this online shift, it has brought upon this new focus as you mentioned to yourself, so could you describe your experience through this period?

So when we moved to Texas, Covid was still new. States didn’t shut down yet. So like a month after we got here, it shut down. So I didn’t get a chance to meet any of the players here in Texas yet. So I decided to play online more, the Tekken netcode at the time wasn’t great so when events went online, these events were region locked. So for the first 2 or so months I couldn’t enter any Tekken events. So I started playing in SFV and UMVC events to pass the time. Namco then decided to release a network patch and other companies did also when they realized that Covid wasn’t going anywhere. So when they release the new patch, it improved the network connection, then I was able to start playing again. After the first event that I made top 16, I felt good. I was able to enter these events without having to leave the house. Then started winning a few of them and placing top 8 in others and even though Covid shut things down, I was able to meet new players and make new training partners during this time. So I was able to stay focused and use Covid as a way to hone my game.

Sounds wonderful that you were able to manage through that transition, but hopefully we see offline soon and treating us just as good once things calm down. Lastly, do you have any final comments you would like to share?

Yes, I do. I would like to thank Tyler and the Rectify team for giving me a chance. Looking to continue my consistency and look forward to playing under your banner.

Truly an enthusiastic and competitive individual. Welcome to Rectify, Damus!
